The 20th century in Wallonia, from Architecture to Heritage
The exhibition The 20th century in Wallonia. From Architecture to Heritage, organised by Agence wallonne du Patrimoine (AWaP), is designed to be a voyage between architecture and heritage. It stems directly from the process undertaken to produce the first regional synthesis on the subject, published in spring 2024.
Like the monograph, the exhibition aims to raise awareness and reappropriate a little-known and sometimes disparaged heritage, and is designed to be accessible to all. The exhibition features a selection of photographs from the book, taken by photographers from the Walloon Heritage Agency.
The book features neo-Gothic and eclectic buildings, with links to the previous century, as well as a range of Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Modernist, Post-Modernist, Brutalist and Functionalist buildings from all over Wallonia.
A wide variety of types are also illustrated: private housing, multiple housing, public buildings, cultural buildings, places of worship, medical, social and sports establishments, industrial heritage, buildings linked to tourism and commerce, civil engineering and commemorative and memorial heritage.
