Desired spaces, Aya Akbib
"During this confinement, I found myself drawing lots of windows, little landscapes, fragments of nature, drawings that in some way reflected my childhood. It's as if I were looking through several windows to access these memories. Perhaps there's a link with what's happening today. For two months, our escape was our windows, our balconies, and walks in parks and forests. This made us aware of the space around us. My desired spaces exist only through the connection I have made and continue to make in my mind, they are drawn on white paper, as if they were artificial islands that are inaccessible. Today, I hope to continue to recall these memories and create new ones, through my drawings and my architectural practice. For what it's worth, recalling memories, collective imaginaries could be a new way of discovering and (de-)constructing spaces."
